I am sure you have been giving or receiving flowers throughout your life. But do you really know the flower meaning of these little gifts of heart?

Back in Victorian era, giving a secret message to your love ones using a carefully chosen bouquet of flowers was the most popular thing to do. The type of flower, its color and even whether if the flower was presented with the right or left hand (right for yes, left for no) all had a special meaning to convey to the other party.

This language of flowers, also called floriography, is not widely used today, when flowers are chose more often for their color, scent or shape. Nonetheless, the meanings would still remain, and if you want to tell your lover how you feel or relay a thoughtful note to a close friend, why not do it with flowers?

Here are 15 popular flowers to choose from, accompanied with their meanings (be sure to include a legend on your own flower messages so the other party can decode its true meaning.

I remember the Chelsea Flower Show in London. It was so breathtaking and I have been on two occasions playing hooky (skipping school) just to visit the Chelsea Flower Show. I can still remember it today after a lapse of so many years when I was a student. Thanks for the memory.

California poppies are my favorite flowers; they signify the Golden State, I suppose. Perhaps the best way to show romantic intent - without getting physical of course - is to give someone flowers. Nice ideas here. Thanks. Later!
